| For the past 15 years I have been dedicated in my art practice which consists mostly of painting and some printmaking. Portraiture, the human body and face have been a great inspiration to me. Photography and Photo-manipulation was usually a large part of the process of creating my work. This theme was also a large part of what I focussed on in my Visual Arts Degree which I completed in 1999. While for some time this was a rich and enjoyable practice, in recent years I have felt quite disconnected from my painting because it has been something that has been difficult or expensive or both to get "out there". When I started taking photos of myself for a social networking site for kinksters I quickly became inspired to make the images as art pieces. From there I subscribed to deviant art and that has really taken off for me. With the kind of images I am creating and the ready made audience of deviant art/ists/participants it has been a great energy exchange of interest and excitement that is really fuelling me to keep making work. Another aspect to it is the theatricality of what I am doing. I am also involved in the theatre so I get to express that aspect of myself as well. Dressing up in costumes and creating make believe scenarios is all part of the fun. It is also very flattering that people both like the images I make and that - in the case of the ones that are of me - they like... um... well... find me sexy. So my main source of inspiration is having people like what I am doing and enjoying the process of doing it. It also is tapping into a deep well of inspiration of a range of creative practices and ultimately the love of the human form. Thank you for looking at my work because for me, without the viewer, there is not much point to the making. |
